About Me

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look through my portfolio. I’m Deven Pritchard, and for my second semester at City College I took Writing for the Sciences In this class I wrote three main essays. An essay on metaphors, a lab report analysis and a rhetorical analysis essay. Along with those essays I did some writing assignments and journal entries. Throughout my time in this class I’ve developed and improved my writing skills an amazing amount. This portfolio serves as evidence of my growth and allows me to share with you my strongest works of the semester.

In writing my three essays, I was able to give and receive great feedback to and from my in-class peers. Through the three essays I felt I did a great job at clearly presenting and stating my points. Where I feel I have faulted, is with the supporting arguments. My arguments could have been stronger and more though out. Overall, I thought I did particularly well with my essays and they definitely conveyed some important things about my writing habits and skills.

This writing class has brought me to terms with my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. My strengths in writing are being able to accurately depict my thoughts into words, delivering clear and strong arguments and overall being able to effectively send a message to the reader, without much room for confusion.

Although, I may have some strengths in writing, new and old, this class made my weaknesses stand out to me. I’ve been able to analyze myself and I’d like to believe that in all the areas i am weak in, I have improved. I feel my weakest areas are grammar and punctuation. I am not as bad with grammar as I am punctuation, but some times i mess up things like tenses or accidentally using vernacular language. As for punctuation, I’ve learned a lot about where to put commas and when to use colons. This class has been very helpful to me in that respect.

Through the semester, I have worked hard to see my own growth and improvement. I hope that as you go through my portfolio you can recognize growth. Hopefully, as you read you find each essay to be better than the last and that you can be hooked in and focused the entire time. I’ve learned a lot about the evolution of ones own writing process. It is my hope that you as a reader are able to witness, use  and take in what you have and have seen me learn from this. Thank you.
